ARTist - Graduate Association of the Angewandte

The Graduate Association helps with concrete measures. Further information.

Angewandte Programme for Inter- and Transdisciplinary Projects in Art and Research (INTRA)

Funding programme for inter- and transdisciplinary projects. The programme aims to promote a new understanding of current issues and to do so rigorously, creatively and with commitment by bringing in the Angewandte with all its approaches and perspectives. Further information.

Angewandte programme for the development of international projects in the arts and research (APPRE)

Promoting project development enables researchers at the University of Applied Arts Vienna to increase their participation in calls for proposals in the international and European research area. The university provides resources for the presentation, networking and content development of applied potentials in the international research area as well as for editorial work on project proposals in the form of a Project Proposal Residency.

Publication funding

In addition to ARTist publication funding (see People for details), Edition Angewandte supports artists and researchers who are or were active at the Angewandte, as well as graduates who would like to present their work to a wider audience in book form.

External funding opportunities

Austrian institutions and local councils and authorities offer various possibilities for (partial) funding of projects in the artistic and artistic-scientific fields. The following list is continuously updated:

BMKOES – Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service and Sport

MA7 Cultural Department of the City of Vienna

The Cultural Department of the City of Vienna seeks to provide optimal framework conditions for the city’s artists and the Viennese public. Its goal consists in ensuring a diverse and interesting cultural program. Further information (available in German).

Funding Pilot (Förderpilot) and 24h Quick-Check

Online platform of the Austrian Research Promotion Agency and the Austria Wirtschaftsservice GmbH. The “24h Quick Check” initial consultation service provides feedback on whether a project idea matches a specific funding track. Further information (available in German).

FWF – Austrian Science Fund

Austria’s central institution for the promotion of basic research. Funding program relevant for artistic researchers: PEEK – Programme for Arts-based Research Further information.

FFG – Austrian Research Promotion Agency

Funding agency for applied research and development in Austria. Promoting research, development and innovation projects through open-topic and thematic funding as well as through programs to strengthen human resources and optimize structures of innovation systems. Further information.

WWTF – Vienna Science and Technology Fund

The Vienna Science and Technology Fund (WWTF) supports major scientific projects that offer the prospect of medium- to long-term economic and/or societal benefits. Further information.

ÖAW – Austrian Academy of Sciences

Several funding programs, both national and international in scope. The aim is to contribute to Austria’s future as a research centre. Further information.

Vienna Business Agency

Supports Viennese companies using funds of the City of Vienna. It is aimed at all Viennese companies of different sizes and industries. Further information.

OEAD – Agency for Education and Internationalisation

Wide range of opportunities for international exchange. The Mobility Programs, Bilateral and Multilateral Cooperation Division manages a set of outgoing scholarship programs on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF). Further information.

International Research Center for Cultural Studies

Facilitates research in cultural studies through fellowships. Further information.

Anniversary Fund of the Austrian National Bank

Founded by the Austrian National Bank on the occasion of its 150th anniversary in 1966 and dedicated to the promotion of science. Further information.

Volkswagen Foundation

Creative Europe

EU programme for the European cultural and creative sector. Funding strands for cultural cooperation (CULTURE), the development, distribution and promotion of European films (MEDIA) and cross-cutting projects (Cross-Sectoral). Pillar 1- Excellent SciencePromotion of scientific excellence in Europe in open-topic calls.

  • ERC (European Research Council): ERC grants provide outstanding researchers at all stages of their careers with the necessary funds to carry out groundbreaking research projects at the boundaries of knowledge (“frontier research”) together with their teams.   • Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) support researchers at all stages of their careers and promote scientific exchange between different countries, disciplines and types of organisations (universities, companies, etc.). Pillar 2- Global Challenges & European Industrial Competitiveness: annual calls for proposals on thematically defined project topics for consortia projects with a European dimension. At least three organisations from at least three EU member states (or associated states) can submit research and innovation projects.

Six thematic clusters: Health; Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society; Civil Security for Society; Digital, Industry and Space; Climate, Energy and Mobility; Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment.

Angewandte Programme for Inter- and Transdisciplinary Projects in Art and Research (INTRA)

The transformation of society must always be perceived in new ways. INTRA, as well as the funded and future projects, contribute to the methodological development of artistic and scientific knowledge processes concerning complex challenges at the Angewandte. INTRA aims to enhance and strengthen the already established conversation culture as well as solidarity and supportive dialogue among researchers and colleagues at the University of Applied Arts.

Call INTRA 2024

INTRA 2024
The University of Applied Arts Vienna had invited colleagues to submit projects in relation to the fifth call in the Programme for Inter- and Transdisciplinary Projects in Art and Research (from February 12 to April 11, 2024). This call was addressed to individuals or teams at the Angewandte who have an artistic and/or scholarly profile as well as a high level of competence in her or his respective subject area.
